BEWARE OF FOREIGN TRANSLATION AGENCIES PRETENDING TO BE CANADIAN

WARNING: Think You’re Hiring a Canadian Translation Agency? Think Again. The Truth May Surprise You.

It’s recently come to our attention — and yes, it’s infuriating — that a growing number of translation agencies advertising online are pretending to be Canadian.

But guess what? They're actually based in the United States.

Not only is this misleading — it’s a direct violation of Canadian advertising laws. And worse, it’s unfair to hard-working, locally owned translation businesses who play by the rules.

If you find this as shady as we do, here’s how you can fight back (it’s easier than you think!):

Spot the Fakes and Support Real Canadian Businesses (It’s as easy as 1-2-3!)

1. Look for 100% Canadian-Owned and Operated Translation Agencies.
   Stick with companies that are proudly based in Canada and openly say so.
2. Do a Quick Google Maps Check.
   Type the agency name in Google Maps — for example, “McKelvey Communications.” If they don't show up at a real Canadian address, you've got your answer.
3. Check for a Local Phone Number.
   Real Canadian agencies list local area codes (like “514” for Montreal). If you only see a 1-800 number with no trace of a regional number? Big red flag.

Many U.S.-based companies offer so-called “certified translations” — but those often aren’t recognized by Canadian institutions or international authorities. THAT MEANS YOUR IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS COULD BE REJECTED.
